Sustainability and inclusion will be at the heart of the European Universities Winter Sports Championships in Val di Zoldo.

Scheduled to be held from December 18 to 21, the event will see athletes take part in Alpine skiing, snowboarding and snow volleyball as a demonstration sport.

The organisers recently hosted a press conference where Università Ca' Foscari, Università Iuav di Venezia, European University Sports Association (EUSA) and Italian University Sports Association (FederCUSI) agreed "to foster inclusion and integration" while recruiting volunteers for the event.

The Championships will also provide information on how to limit the impact of the event on the environment.

"Having defined a collaboration with the Unesco Dolomites Foundation, the Organising Committee is pleased to be able to disseminate specific guidelines and training moments to all participants regarding environmental protection and sustainable tourism," a statement read.

The press conference was attended by Università Iuav di Venezia rector Benno Albrecht, Università Ca' Foscari sport delegate Maria Antonietta Baldo, Venice Municipality Councillor Paola Mar, CUS Venezia President Massimo Zanotto, Val di Zoldo Mayor Camillo De Pellegrin, EUSA first Vice-President Haris Pavletic and EUSA secretary general Matjaz Pecovnik.

Apart from the Championships, a series of activities and initiatives have been planned to develop and create a direct and ongoing relationship between territory, EUSA, and European universities.

As part of this, Val di Zoldo hosted an EUSA-FISU seminar from March 23 to 26 this yea.

The event is expected to boost the tourism prospects of the area.

Around 600 members, including athletes, officials, organisers, and volunteers are expected to take part in the event.
