Hungarian University and College Sports Federation secretary general Péter Juhász has claimed that the country's hosting the 2024 European Universities Games underlines its commitment to the European Union.

Debrecen and Miskolc are set to stage the European University Sports Association (EUSA) event from July 12 to 24 next year.

The two cities also held three European Universities Championships this year in badminton, water polo, and 3x3 basketball.

"The 2023 European Universities Championships and the 2024 European Universities Games reinforce and emphasise that Hungary actively participates in the European Union," said Juhász.

He also stated that next year, which will be the largest student sports event in Europe, will put the University of Miskolc on the regional map.

More than 5,000 participants from 40 countries and 450 universities are expected to take part.

The University of Miskolc's rector Zita Horváth proudly stated that the institute has not only made progress in the academic rankings, but renovation work to improve the quality of teaching and student services have also been carried out.

The construction of the Scientific Data Analytics Methodology Center and Open Research Data Source Archive is nearing completion.

She also stated that the financing agreement between the university and the Government included support for sporting activities at the university.

Next year's event is set to be the first edition held in Hungary and the seventh overall since the inaugural event in 2012.
