International University Sports Federation (FISU) Acting President Leonz Eder has helped open the Lithuanian National Students Sports Museum.

Eder was one of four officials to cut a ribbon at the first-of-its-kind museum in Kaunas.

Lithuanian Students Sports Association (LSSA) President Ceslovas Garbaliauskas, Lithuanian Sports University rector Diana Rèklaitienè and Linas Obcarskas, a Government vice-minister of education, science and sport, also helped open the museum.

"This museum means a lot and we are glad it will nurture a very rich history of student sports," Obcarskas said.

The opening coincided with celebrations of the LSSA's 100th anniversary.

Eder was also honoured and named "Doctor Honoris Causa" of the Lithuanian Sports University, recognising his work promoting student sport.

"I am very happy to receive this award," Eder said.

"However, I think it is not only for me, but for the entire student sports movement."
