Geiger had celebrated victory at the Gross-Titlis-Schanze venue in Switzerland yesterday, with the German finishing less than a point clear of Kobayashi.

Killian Peier threatened to challenge the duo when he took a first-round lead in the second competition at the venue.

The Swiss ski jumper leapt 136.5 metres to earn 152.2 points.

Kobayashi and Geiger trailed on 152 and 151.4 points respectively.

Peier produced the fifth-highest scoring jump in the second round, with his 140 points seeing him drop off the podium places.

Kobayashi seized the opportunity with an effort of 136.5m, which gave him 154 points for the round.

The effort was enough for the 2018-2019 overall World Cup champion to claim victory, ending on an overall score of 306 points.

Kobayashi is now the only ski jumper to have won three men’s World Cup events this season.

He finished clear of Geiger, with the German closing on 293.8 points after a second-round jump of 131.5.

Norway’s Marius Lindvik completed the podium places on 293.5 points, with Peirer ending fourth on 293.1.

Geiger’s consistency throughout the opening nine events keeps him top of the overall World Cup standings, which he has led since the first round of the season.

Geiger has a total of 594 points, with Kobayashi 98 points behind the leader.
