The International World Games Association (IWGA) and the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) have strengthened their relationship by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The 12th edition of The World Games will be held in Chengdu, China, from 7 to 17 August 2025. 

With this signature, the COC has the responsibility to create and develop awareness in China as a top priority. The MoU specifically emphasises the promotion of sports and disciplines to be included in the programme of The World Games in Chengdu. 

China is expected to send one of the largest delegations to The World Games, an international multi-sport event including non-Olympic sports, with outstanding performances by Chinese athletes. 

The host country has a proven track record of successfully organising major events and plays an important role in promoting the growth and recognition of The World Games throughout Asia.

IWGA President José Perurena said: "The signing of this MoU is a big step for the future of our union. I would like to take this opportunity to thank to the President of the COC, Mr Gao. This MoU gives us all great confidence that we will have a safe and successful edition of The World Games in 2025."

Mr. Gao Zhidan, President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, said: "The signing of this MoU reflects China's strong commitment to the success of The World Games Chengdu 2025 and to promoting the development of trendy sports."

This is the IWGA's third co-signed MoU of 2024, following agreements with France and Spain on 20 February and 6 March respectively. These partnerships are just the beginning of a series of MoUs that the IWGA plans to sign with top National Olympic Committees (NOCs) around the world.
