Switzerland duo Katharina Jurt and Alexandre Dallenbach claimed mixed relay gold on the final day of laser run competition at the International Modern Pentathlon Union World Championships in Bath, England.

The Laser Run and Pentathlon World Championships are being held as a combined event at the University of Bath and the mixed relay concluded senior action in the Laser Run Championships.

Dallenbach, a silver medallist in the men’s individual event yesterday, upgraded to gold alongside Jurt, as they finished in a winning time of 12min 14.73sec.

Silver went to Mexican duo Tamara Vega and Lorenzo Macias in 12:20.94, with bronze going to Lithuania’s Elzbieta Adomaityte and Titas Puronas in 12:27.27.

Laser run mixed relay action took place across a host of categories ranging from under-nine to masters over-60s.

Hosts Britain won four golds across the age groups during the mixed relays, while Egypt finished the Championships top of the medal table with 12 golds.

The UIPM Para Laser Run World Championships also took place on the final day, with Egypt winning both the men’s and women’s LR4 wheelchair races.

Hanin Elkhouly won the women’s race, with Abdullah Abdelmawla triumphant in the men’s.

There was also a mixed gender and mixed classification event for athletes with physical and visual disabilities, while for the first time a live video stream of action at the Para Laser Run World Championships was available to viewers.

Reflecting on the event UIPM President Dr Klaus Schormann said: "In the past three days in Bath we saw a fantastic presentation of the UIPM Laser Run World Championships for all generations, from under-nine to Masters.

"This was a universal celebration of the glory of sport.

"We have fantastic facilities here at the University of Bath, and we had athletes competing and cheering each other on surrounded by parents and coaches.

"Laser run is a very special pillar of our UIPM movement as a popular urban sport.

"The UIPM Para Laser Run World Championships for wheelchair athlete and other classifications took place this morning and it was clear that the level is growing.

"It is fantastic that our movement is taking care of Para Pentathlon athletes and making sure our sport is as inclusive as possible."

Action is due to switch to the Pentathlon World Championships tomorrow, with competition beginning with the women’s and men’s relays.
