The Palestine Olympic Committee has launched its National Olympic Week in Ramallah ©POC

Athletes in judo, kickboxing, aikido, gymnastics, muay thai, taekwondo, kung fu, jiu jitsu and basketball took part in demonstrations as the Palestine Olympic Committee (POC) launched its National Olympic Week in Ramallah.

Among those present at the Majid Assad Stadium were the Governor of Ramallah Dr Layla Ghannam, and the POC secretary general Abdul Majid Hijjeh.

Further sporting exhibitions were due to be held in northern and southern provinces.

Ghannam praised the efforts of the POC President Major General Jibril Rajoub and his team in promoting sports in Palestine.

The secretary general added that National Olympic Week carried a message of national unity and praised national sports federations and athletes for reinforcing sporting values and Olympism.

The celebrations have been sponsored by corporations including POC partners Mobil, General Dairy and Coca-Cola.
