A Selection Committee has proposed three candidates to succeed Alfons Hörmann as President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

Hörmann announced in May he was resigning from the post after an anonymous letter sent to officials claimed there was a "culture of fear" under his leadership, accusations he denies.

A Selection Committee headed by Christian Wulf, has proposed International Table Tennis Federation President Thomas Weikert, President of the German Fencing Federation Professor Claudia Bokel and Stephan Mayer, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community.

The DOSB Executive Board today told its member organisations: "In recent weeks, the Selection Committee for the search for the new President of the DOSB has intensively exchanged views with a wide range of candidates.

"From this circle, the Commission proposes three personalities who have a clear idea of the challenges of this office and are certainly well able to meet this demanding task."

All three candidates are set to present themselves to member organisations on November 14 in Dusseldorf.

Hörmann claimed in an interview with the German Press Agency that he was the victim of a coup, after interim results into an analysis of the organisation’s internal culture, published earlier this month, concluded there was "no evidence of a comprehensive culture of fear within the DOSB."

In the anonymous letter, sent in May, staff claimed they had been brought "mentally and psychologically over the limits of what they could take."

Allegations were made that objects were thrown at employees, while Hörmann was criticised for having allegedly not worn a mask at meetings in breach of COVID-19 rules.

Elections are scheduled to take place next month, with Weikert, who is set to step down from the ITTF Presidency, considered favourite to replace Hörmann, after reportedly being backed for the top job at the DOSB by 14 members last month.
