The Costa Rica Olympic Committee (COCR) held an Olympic Day event which saw 100 people try out different sports.

The event took place at the COCR headquarters in San José with youngsters and adults alike taking part.

Fencing, athletics, judo and table tennis were among the sports on offer while Olympic athletes were also on hand.

COCR President Henry Núñez was among those to take part in the activities, with a discussion on the Olympic Movement also taking place.

Everyone involved received an Olympic Day t-shirt.

Olympic Day falls each year on June 23, but National Olympic Committees around the world do not necessarily celebrate on that date.

It commemorates the founding of the international Olympic Movement by Pierre de Coubertin in 1894.

The aim of the day is to spread the ideas of the Olympic Movement and promote participation in sport around the world.

Costa Rica have won four medals in their Olympic history, including one gold.

All four have been won by swimming sisters Claudia and Silvia Poll.

Claudia, the younger sister, won the 200 metres backstroke title at Atlanta 1996, before winning bronze in the same event at Sydney 2000.

She also finished third in the women's 400m freestyle in the Australian city, with Silvia clinching 200m freestyle silver at Seoul 1988.
