October 13 - The triple World Ironman Triathlon champion Chrissie Wellington (pictured) may switch to cycling in a bid to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics, she has revealed.

The 32-year-old from Norfolk claimed her third consecutive world title in Kona on Saturday when she broke the 17-year-old course record for the Hawaii Ironman, recording 8 hours 54min 02sec for the course which consisted of a 2.4 mile swim, 112-mile cycle ride and 26.2 mile run.

She won $110,000 (£69,400).

But the ironman distance is not an Olympic event so Wellington is investigating her options for London 2012.

She said: "Olympic distance triathlon requires a completely different skill set.

"That's not to say I won't give 2012 a shot, either in triathlon or another sport, maybe bike racing.

"I've got three years, at the moment I want to concentrate on Ironman, but if we think that there's a chance I could make it on to a British team of course that's something I'd go for.

"The Olympics is the highlight of any professional athlete's career but my Hawaii victory means so much to me."
