French swimming sensation Maxime Grousset says Paris 2024 "will be the best competition of my life," ahead of the Games in Paris this summer.

The 25-year-old concluded his final competition before the 2024 French Olympic Trials at the Canet-en-Roussillon leg of the Mare Nostrum Tour this past weekend.

Grousset dominated the sprint freestyle events, posting winning times of 21.92 and 48.71 in the 50m and 100m, respectively. Additionally, he secured a second-place finish in the 100m butterfly with a time of 51.92.

He began swimming at the age of five, quickly learning to navigate the waters of the South Pacific. Grousset made a name for himself in the local club scene before moving to Amiens in 2016, which marked a significant turning point in his career. Embracing weight training and rigorous physical preparation, his dedication yielded swift results.

Just a year after relocating to the French mainland, he won his first national title in the 4x100m freestyle relay and secured a world junior silver medal in the 50m freestyle. In 2018, he was part of France's victorious mixed 4x100m freestyle relay team at the European Championships in Glasgow.

He has since spoke of his excitement in a recent interview ahead of Paris 2024. "I feel good about the 50 metre, it is always good to pass the 22," Grousset told outlet swimswam.com of his recent performance at the Canet-en-Roussillon leg of the Mare Nostrum Tour.

"The 100 fly result it is pretty bad, but it is ok for the moment. Behind the 50, I feel tired, it made me tired. I try to feel the water differently as a freestyle (on swimming the 100 fly). It is a good swim to do, and like it."

Grousset reflected on his participation at Tokyo 2020 but is eager to showcase his talents and bring glory to his nation as he competes on home soil at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics this summer.

"The competition (Tokyo 2020) was good, but there were no fans," he continued. "I have no words when it comes to Paris, other than it will be the best competition of my life!"
