The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) revealed the lineup on Wednesday of 10 sports scheduled to be showcased in the upcoming edition of the Asian Youth Para Games, set to occur in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from September to October 2025.

The comprehensive sports program for the event includes Para Athletics, Para-Armwrestling, Para Cycling, Goalball, Para Judo, Para Powerlifting, Para Swimming, Para Canoe, Para Taekwondo, and Para Academic Rowing. Of these, nine sports are Paralympic sports and are slated to be part of the upcoming Paris 2024 Games.

Para-Armwrestling, a sport popular in Uzbekistan and the wider Asian region, will make its debut in the sports program of an Asian Youth Para Games for the first time in Tashkent. Notably, the World Armwrestling Federation, the governing body of the sport, is recognised by the International Paralympic Committee as an International Federation.

Asian Paralympic Committee President Majid Rashed said, “After careful review of the Games’ standards and sports federations’ requirements, we are pleased to announce the sport programme of the fifth Asian Youth Para Games.

“The youth Games are an opportunity to introduce, grow and promote a new sport in the region. Previously also, we have had the chance to promote a sport in our programmes and there has been a lot of excitement.”

He expressed his delight that the majority of the sports included in the Tashkent event are already part of the Paralympic Games program. Rashed is hoping for robust competition, foreseeing the emergence of future Asian Para Games and Paralympic champions. The Tashkent 2025 Games will mark the inaugural occasion of the Asian Youth Para Games being hosted in the same city and by the same organisers as the Asian Youth Games. “We are very excited and proud about it,” added Rashed.

Consequently, the Games will serve as an opportunity for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to observe increased athlete participation and their holistic development.

Simultaneously, Mukhtorkhon Tashkhodjaev, Vice President of the Uzbekistan National Paralympic Committee and the Asian Paralympic Committee, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the APC for their unwavering support and guidance in the preparation of the forthcoming Games in Tashkent.

The Tashkent 2025 Games will mark the fifth edition of the Asian Youth Para Games and are anticipated to witness the participation of approximately 1,000 athletes across 10 sports. The 2021 iteration of the Asian Youth Para Games was held in Bahrain from 2-6 December, featuring 750 athletes competing in nine sports.
