Draw Results for Water Polo Tournaments at World Aquatics - Doha 2024

World Aquatics Championships - Fukuoka 2023 gold medallist Brigitte Sleeking of the Netherlands and 2023 World Aquatics Men's Water Polo World Cup winner Unai Aguirre of Spain led today's draw for the men's and women's events of the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships.

Women's Tournament

Group A
The first team to be drawn in the Women's Water Polo Tournament is Brazil (BRA), who will headline Group A. They will be joined by the United States (USA), who recently qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after winning their eighth consecutive Pan American Games gold medal with a 17-7 victory over Brazil. 

Kazakhstan (KAZ) and the Netherlands (NED) complete the group, with the latter travelling to Doha as the defending champions after reclaiming the women's water polo world title in Fukuoka after a 32-year drought.

Group B
World Aquatics Championships - Fukuoka 2023 silver medallists Spain (ESP) are joined by the People's Republic of China (CHN) in Group B, with the other two places to be decided after the European Women's Water Polo Championships.

Group C
Making their debut at the Aquatics World Championships debut, Singapore (SGP) will be placed in Group C, alongside Hungary (HUN), Australia (AUS), and New Zealand (NZL).

Group D
In Group D, Italy (ITA), bronze medallists at the Aquatics World Championships - Fukuoka 2023 will be joined by South Africa (RSA) and Canada (CAN), with the final spot to be confirmed after the European Women's Water Polo Championships.

Men's Tournament

Group A
The first team drawn in the Men's Water Polo Tournament, in Group A, is South Africa (RSA). They'll be joined in the group by Australia (AUS), and Spain (ESP), the winners of the 2023 Men's Water Polo World Cup. The final position in Group A will be confirmed after the Men's European Water Polo Championship 2024.

Group B
World Aquatics Championships - Fukuoka 2023 silver medallists Greece (GRE), who were narrowly edged out by Hungary in a thrilling shoot-out, are joined in Group B by Brazil (BRA), the People's Republic of China (CHN) and the hosts of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, France (FRA).  

Group C
Tokyo 2020 defending champions Serbia (SRB) are in Group C, along with two non-European teams in Japan (JPN) and the United States (USA). The final position in Group C will be confirmed after the Men's European Water Polo Championship 2024.

Group D
In Group D, Kazakhstan (KAZ) booked their place at the 2023 Asian Games after beating Iran 10-9 on penalties. They will be joined by defending world champions Hungary (HUN) and the most successful country in men's water polo at the World Aquatics Championships, with four gold medals, Italy (ITA). The final spot in Group D will be confirmed after the Men's European Water Polo Championship 2024.
