Hayato Miwa of Japan, second from left, won the men's open weight sumo title ยฉRiyadh 2023

Hayato Miwa of Japan and Svitlana Iaromka of Ukraine won the men's and women's open weight sumo titles at the World Combat Games in Riyadh.

Miwa defeated Oleksandr Veresiuk of Ukraine for the title while Iaromka got the better of Viktoriia Tsaruk in an all-Ukrainian affair.

Among men, Japan and Ukraine bagged bronze medals too thanks to Taisei Matsuzono and Vazha Daiauri.

Matsuzono was victorious against another Ukrainian in Sviatoslav Semykras as Daiauri triumphed over Rui Aparecido of Brazilian.

The two nations bagged bronze medals among women as well, with Ivanna Berezovska of Ukraine beating compatriot Tsaruk and Airi Hisano leading the charge for Japan against Wioleta Paulina of Poland.

Wushu medals were also handed out on Sunday with China winning four golds.

Li Yueyao got a victory by gap point against Camargo Edinea of Brazil in the women's 52 kilograms final.

She was backed by Wu Xiaowei, who despatched home favourite Abduljawad Sarah by the same rule in the 60kg class.

The women's 70kg title belonged to Mansouriyan Shahrbano who scored a 2-1 victory by rounds against Raine Cristina of Brazil.

Adding to the Chinese streak was Li Zhaoyang who registered a 2-1 victory by rounds against Rezaei Mohammadmahdi of Iran in the men's 70kg.

Before that, Jiang Haidong cruised 2-10 past Pratama Laksmana Pandu of Indonesia in the men's 56kg.

Egypt and Morocco stood on top of the podium in the 65kg and 75kg class among men, respectively, thanks to Moshen El Sifeldin and Boujekka Saad.

El Sifeldin was no match for Tabugara Clemente Jr of the Phillipnes, beating him 2-0, with Saad getting a gap point win over Frenchman  Benbedra Yoan.
