The International World Games Association (IWGA) has been urged to communicate and collaborate with the Organising Committee of the 2025 World Games to ensure a successful event.

The 2025 World Games are due to take place in Chengdu in China from August 7 to 17 2025, with IWGA officials among the interested observers as the Chinese city staged the Chengdu 2021 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer World University Games in July and August.

Speaking in an interview with The World Games website, FISU sports director Juan-Carlos Holgado encouraged the IWGA to work with the Chengdu 2025 Organising Committee so they could understand the sporting programme for the event.

"The most important [thing] for me is ensuring that the Organising Committee understands the different sports in your programme, and your expectations," said Holgado.

"Several of the sports in The World Games are unknown to Chinese people. They might not even exist in China, so they will miss local experienced persons to prepare and deliver these sports.

"The key to success is to build relations with the Organising Committee, find the right persons to communicate with per functional area, and provide the Organising Committee with precise information, accurate instructions, and the IWGA expectations.

"Then ensuring to keep fluent communication and collaboration. If this is achieved, I do not doubt The World Games in Chengdu will be as successful as the FISU Games we just had."

Holgado also encouraged the IWGA to get help from local people to promote The World Games and its various sports through Chinese social media platforms.

"The Organising Committee will do its part there with their own media operations, but we felt it was essential for our media strategy for these Games to have our own Chinese team working on social media," Holgado added.

"We did, and looking back, we realise it was a good decision.

"Let me wish the IWGA, its sports and our friends in Chengdu a very successful Games in 2025.

"We look forward to witnessing a successful event, at least at the level we had a few weeks ago, if not even better.

"It is a pleasure to have played the ‘test event’ role for The World Games in 2025!

"FISU is always happy to be helpful and support its partners, and in this case, continuing with the excellent and fruitful partnership with the IWGA."

The 2025 World Games is set to feature 35 sports, and more than 60 disciplines.

Cheerleading, Para dance and powerboating are all due to feature on The World Games programme for the first time at the Chengdu 2025 edition, while sambo and disc golf are both scheduled to return to the World Games programme in Chengdu.
