Japanese men did a clean sweep of the lead podium at the International Sport Climbing Federation (IFSC) World Cup in Briançon.

Teen sensation Anraku Sorato finished the event as the only one to climb to the top for the gold medal, his first in a lead World Cup.

"I’m surprised to win," Sorato said after the win.

"I love doing both Boulder and Lead and I want to win more medals.

"I really want to win the World Championships as well.

"Koper World Cup. Wujiang World Cup.

"I practice a lot and I want to win them all."

Sorato's compatriots Homma Taisei and Joshida Satome finished second and third, respectively, with both finishing at 49+.

Japanese men dominated the semi-finals yesterday with seven of them qualifying for the final.

Japan would have been the top seven if not for Hannes Puman of Sweden, who finished seventh on 39.

Among women, Slovenian Vita Lukan claimed her first gold medal in the women's lead.

It was a special moment for Lukan, who has had an injury-prone 2023.

She tore her ACL and meniscus and did not climb until mid April.

"It’s amazing. I’m speechless. I did not expect it," Lukan said.

"I don’t know what happened.

"I just climbed and enjoyed the route, I fought hard, I give it my all and I’m really surprised.

"I’m just happy."

She climbed to the 46th hold to claim the first place.

At hold 44, Eliška Adamovská of the Czech Republic got silver.

Hosts France finally had something to celebrate when Munich 2022 European Championships bronze medallist Manon Hily finished third on hold 44.
