Swiss Sliding has strengthened its coaching team prior to the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo with a trio of acquisitions in the form of Wolfram Lösch, Wolfgang Adler, and Marina Gilardoni.

Lösch has taken the role of skeleton coach and will also train future coaches.

Following his retirement as an athlete in 2006, the 41-year-old was employed as a skeleton national base coach for Germany in Altenberg.

He also helped German Axel Jungk to silver at Beijing 2022.

Austrian Adler is due to begin work with Swiss Sliding on September 1 as an athletics coach.

He has worked for various athletics federations in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

In 2019, Adler was presented with the European Athletics Coaching Award by the European Athletics Federation as well being named Coach of the Year in Austria.

The 60-year-old will focus on technical development in sprinting and will support coach Chris Woolley in his further development in athletics.

They both join World Championships silver medallist Gilardoni, who took over as head of the skeleton division in April.

In the role she will be responsible for supporting and encouraging aspiring skeleton athletes to further their careers.

The 36-year-old Gilardoni put an end to her own sporting career in March earlier this year after 14-years in the sport.

She achieved five World Cup podiums and competed in both the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi and Pyeongchang, respectively, before winning European Championships bronze in 2016 and silver in 2020.

In the same year she finished runner up in the women's skeleton at the Altenberg 2020 World Championships.

Switzerland has won 11 Winter Olympic gold medals in sliding sports with 10 coming in bobsleigh and one in sliding, making it their second most successful sport at the Games after Alpine skiing.

They have failed to win a medal in the sliding sports since Sochi 2014 when Alex Baumann and Beat Hefti combined for two-man bobsleigh gold.

Before that, their previous medal was at Turin 2006 when Maya Pedersen-Bieri won the women's skeleton.

The sliding sports at Milan Cortina 2026 are due to take place at the Eugenio Monti olympic track.

The original track in Cortina was built in 1928 and was used for the 1956 Winter Olympics, as well as being a film set for the 1981 James Bond film For Your Eyes Only, starring Roger Moore.

It has been closed since 2008 and is currently in a state of decay, but is being controversially renovated in time for Milan Cortina 2026 at a cost of at a cost of €80 million (£70.8 million/$85 million) - nearly double initial estimates.
