Tawhid Imam Tanim and Md Nayeem Islam delivered men’s singles gold for Bangladesh after winning the respective M21 and M18 categories at the Messe Berlin in the German city.

There was also double men’s singles delight for hosts Germany, with Joerg Orth taking the M11 gold and Martin Koehler clinching the M12 title.

Alan Mogliazzi and Raffaele Delmenico secured men’s singles golds for Switzerland, while Hong Kong, Libya, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Vietnam, New Zealand, Macau, Greece, Suriname, Slovenia, China and Ireland all earned the other titles on offer today.

Bangladesh emerged victorious again in the M02 team final thanks to fine performances from Tanim and Islam as well as Nurun Nahar and Md Nayeem.

Germany claimed their third boccia gold courtesy of Hanni Kjeldsen and Iris Regelin’s victory in the F04 women’s doubles category.

As well as boccia, medals were also awarded for the first time in badminton and table tennis.

All three events were staged at the Messe Berlin as Egypt bagged a badminton gold after Khaled Abdelhamid and Abdelrahman defeated Chinese Taipei’s Hao Yu Hsieh and Bing Jhe Li in the MD01 men’s doubles final.

There was also joy for India’s Lokesh Nasi and Ritesh Kumar who overcame Libya’s Ahmed Kaabir and Abdurauf Mabrouk to win the MD02 men’s doubles title.

Syria’s Rawan Ajami and Yasmin Badran won the WD01 women’s doubles crown with victory over Morocco’s Abir Ait Edery and Farah Diouane, while India’s Shameela Dudekula and Poonam Kumari beat Kenya’s Linah Gashahon and Lyn Oyiengo to clinch the WD02 category.

China’s Lu Jiaxin and Wang Weican, Ukraine’s Anna Sapon and Stepan Syniukov, Poland’s Grzegorz Figurski and Katarzyna Janicka, Hassan Alblooshi and Zakeya Almaazmi of the United Arab Emirates, Anna Antonopoulou and Iason Papadopoulos of Greece, Panna Akter and K M Farddin Shom of Bangladesh and Julian Rublack and Pia Welsch of Germany, Andrea Francesco Aloisio and Alessia Zucchelli of Italy and Louise Fleisher and Mads Loenvad of Demark all claimed mixed doubles titles.

In table tennis, Japan, Hong Kong and Malta won men’s unified sports doubles golds, while Puerto Rico, Luxembourg, and Macau were crowned women’s unified sports doubles champions.

Medals continued to be awarded in athletics, bowling, cycling, equestrian, rhythmic gymnastics, powerlifting, roller skating, swimming and table tennis.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow with medals set to be contested in several sports, including golf and judo for the first time.
