Ukraine enjoyed another successful day in the Recreio Da Juventude pool on the second day of the Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul, with Vladyslav Kremliakov clinching the men's 200 metres backstroke title.

Kremliakov eased to victory in 2min 4.36sec, building on his compatriot Oleksii Kolomiiets' triumph in the men's 50m butterfly yesterday.

He won the race by almost three seconds ahead of the United States' Matthew Klotz, who clocked 2:07.12.

Fellow American Collin Davis rounded off the podium in 2:10.05.

The women's 100m butterfly proved much closer, with just 0.03sec separating Japan's Kyoka Saito and Italy’s Sara Maragno.

It was Saito who prevailed in 1:06.98, with Maragno having to settle for silver in 1:07.01.

Ukraine collected another swimming medal - their sixth in the sport at this year's Deaflympics - as Anita Makhnyk came through in third in 1:07.54.

The team badminton quarter-finals were also held today at the Centro de Iniciação ao Esporte São Caetano.

Chinese Taipei beat Lithuania 3-2 to set up a semi-final against India, who defeated Turkey 3-1.

South Korea required just three matches to see off Thailand, and are set to meet Japan in tomorrow's semi-finals.

Hosts Brazil had a disappointing start to the men's handball tournament at the University of Caxias do Sul Multi-Sport Gym, losing 34-10 to Serbia.

Croatia beat Turkey 35-20 in the day's other match.

The delayed Deaflympics is set to continue tomorrow, and is due to run until May 15.
