Louisa Ma came from a game down to defeat Tiffany Ho and set up a showdown with reigning champion Wendy Chen Hsuan-yu in the women's singles final at the Oceania Badminton Championships in Melbourne in Australia.

The second seed lost the opening game before winning a tense second as she went on to beat fellow Australian Ho 14-21, 21-19, 21-11.

The victory sees Ma reach the final for the third time and will hope to get the better of Chen after losing to her in 2018 and 2020.

Top seed Chen will be eyeing a seventh straight women’s singles title having taken a stranglehold of the event since 2015.

The 28-year-old looks in no mood to relinquish her crown as she powered to a 21-5, 21-9 victory over Sydney Tjonadi in an all Australian semi-final.

Unseeded Nathan Tang of Australia has advanced to the men's singles final where he will meet compatriot Edward Lau.

Tang stunned top seed Abhinav Manota of New Zealand with a 21-16, 21-23, 21-16 triumph in the quarter-finals before overcoming Australia's Ying Xiang Lin 21-18, 23-21 in the semi-finals.

New Zealand's Oscar Guo produced the other big shock of the tournament when he took out second seed Anthony Joe of Australia in the last-16 yesterday.

Guo backed up that win by defeating Australian Athi Selladurai 21-19, 21-16 and almost knocked out Lau in the semi-finals.

Seventh seed Lau dropped the first game before recovering to see off Guo 11-21, 21-16, 21-17.

Competition is due to conclude tomorrow.
