The Singapore Teqball Federation plans to establish a national training centre this year, with a technical director also due to be appointed.

It is part of a vision to establish Singapore's first national teqball team and give players the best preparation for major events.

As well as International Federation of Teqball World (FITEQ) Championships, this includes the next Asian Beach Games and Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG).

Teqball will be a medal event at the Asian Beach Games and a demonstration sport at the AIMAG.

As well as the national training centre, the Singapore Teqball Federation is also eyeing grassroots development.

President R Sasikumar told CNA this would hopefully involve introducing the sport to Singapore's schools.

"The whole idea for us is to engage MoE [Ministry of Education] and to say 'how can we introduce teqball into the schools?'"

Sasikumar also conceded that neighbouring Malaysia had a "five- or six-year lead on us" in terms of development, but the Singapore Teqball Federation is keen to play catch-up.

It is recognised by both FITEQ and the Singapore National Olympic Council.
