Tickets_for_Troops_logoNovember 23 - More British servicemen and women will get the chance to watch top-class sport after Badminton England teamed up with armed forces initiative Battle Back to support Tickets for Troops.

Fifty pairs of tickets have been donated by Badminton England for three of their major events in 2011.

Service personnel will be able to watch day one of the English National Championships at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester on Friday, February 4, quarter finals night of the Yonex All England Open Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on Friday, March 11, and quarter finals day at the Yonex BWF World Championships at Wembley Arena on Friday, August 12.

Earlier this month London 2012 announced that up to 10,000 tickets for the Olympics will be provided for servicemen, women and their families following an extension of the Ticketshare scheme in conjunction with Tickets for Troops.

Nicola Moloney, Badminton England's head of major events and competitions, said: "Battle Back is a tri-service organisation which encourages injured servicemen and women to participate in sport as part of their rehabilitation.

"We are delighted to be involved with Tickets For Troops, a charity which is dedicated to offering free tickets for big events to our soldiers, sailors and airmen and women.

"Badminton England has also developed a strong relationship with elite English wheelchair badminton players, such as world number six Gobi Ranganathan.

"Gobi has been visiting Headley Court in Surrey to put on demonstrations, teach skills and encourage recovering servicemen and women to participate in the sport.

"With badminton hopeful of becoming a Paralympic sport in time for the 2016 Olympic Games, this is a great opportunity to unearth some stars of the future."
