Lukashenko, vice-president of the NOCRB and son of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, participated in the visit which was held as part of the month-long "Our Children" charity event. 

He was joined by Beijing 2008 Olympic canoe sprint champions Aliaksandr and Andrei Bahdanovich, Minsk 2019 European Games high jump gold medallist Maksim Nedasekau and long jumper Nastassia Mironchyk-Ivanova.

Belarusian Wrestling Federation chairman Kamandar Madzhidov, a Seoul 1988 Olympic wrestling champion, was also present. 

They visited Children's Town in Minsk before Christmas and brought gifts for the residents. 

The children and guests then participated in sporting activities, before making cards and a Christmas wreath. 

Lukashenko thanked the children for their welcome. 

"The outgoing year 2020 has shown us that the most important thing is health," he said.  

"To be healthy, you need to lead a healthy lifestyle and engage in physical activities and sports. 

"In the New Year, everyone has their deepest desires and dreams. 

"To make them come true, you need to go through a difficult path and do a lot for this, just like our great athletes who came to visit you. 

"We congratulate you on the upcoming holiday. 

"I wish you health, good mood and good luck next year."

The "Our Children" charity events run in Belarus from December 10 until today and sees rRepresentatives from administrative bodies visit children's homes and hospitals to give gifts for Christmas and the New Year. 

Madzhidov has also taken part in the event in previous years.

"We hope that we gave the children a real holiday and they liked the gifts," he said. 

"This is not the first time I take part in the campaign and every time I see how many talented children there are."

Viktor Lukashenko is among three senior officials to be banned from attending this year's postponed Olympic Games in Tokyo. 

His father, also President of the NOCRB as well as Belarus, has also been given the suspension.

The third official is Belarusian Ice Hockey Association President and NOCRB Board member Dmitri Baskov, considered a suspect in an attack on artist Raman Bandarenka, who later died in hospital, during a peaceful protest in Belarus.

The ban is part of a series of provisional measures handed out by the International Olympic Committee after it was found the senior officials "had not appropriately protected the Belarusian athletes from political discrimination within the NOC, their member sports federations or the sports movement."

It followed allegations that athletes had been beaten, tortured and arrested for participating in the widespread protests against Alexander Lukashenko following his disputed re-election in August.
