Olympic Alpine skier Kurt Hennrich has died at the age of 89, it has been announced.

Competing for Czechoslovakia, he raced in three events at the 1956 Winter Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo in Italy.

His best finish was in the downhill, where he came home seventh.

Hennrich also finished in 36th place in both the slalom and giant slalom.

In the 1940s and 1950s, Hennrich won both senior and junior national titles in Czechoslovakia.

At the end of his competitive career, he moved into coaching and worked with the Czech Alpine skiing team. 

The International Ski Federation were among those to pay tribute to Hennrich, while offering condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.
