France won nine athletics events in an impressive showing on the opening day of the European Para Youth Games in Pajulahti in Finland.

Yasser Musanganya and Bernard Youenn were the standout performers as they triumphed in two events each at Rakokivi Sport Center.

Musanganya won the M20 100 metres T54 wheelchair race in 15.14sec and the M20 800m T54 wheelchair race in 2:02.94, while Youenn came out on top in M17 100m T13 final in 12.31 and was the sole competitor in the M17 shot put F13 final.

Among France's other victors were Kerrian Malcoste and Beatrice Aoustin with the former clocking 12.21 to take the M20 100m T37-38 title and the latter managing an unrivalled throw of 7.50m in the women's shot put F20 final.

There was success for Lea Walter and Chloe Walter in the all-French W20 100m T13 and W20 shot put F13 finals, respectively.

Lea Walter finished ahead of Celia Terki with a time of 13.91.

Chloe Walter, meanwhile, held off Lea and prevailed with a throw of 7.50m.

Another sport in which medals were awarded today was judo with Germany securing three gold medals through Daniel-Rafael Goral in the men's over-81 kilograms, Henry Mackney in the men's under-81kg, and Anna Tabaea Müller in the women's under-52kg.

Action is due to continue tomorrow.

The European Para Youth Games are organised by the European Paralympic Committee and are being hosted by the Finnish Paralympic Committee at the Pajulahti Olympic and Paralympic Training Centre.
