Ellen Ryan of Australia won section two of the women's singles event at the World Youth Bowls Championships in Gold Coast as she picked up three wins today.

The home favourite began with a 21-14 success against Sophie Rabey of Guernsey before she beat Cook Islands bowler Colleen Paniani 21-12.

Ryan completed a hat-trick of wins on day five by comprehensively overcoming Canada's Nicole LeBlanc 21-5.

The Australian athlete finished at the summit of her section on a total of 24 points, three in front of New Zealand's Tayla Bruce.

Ryan remains on course for further success at the tournament on home soil as she currently leads the way in section one of the mixed pairs competition, where she is participating alongside Aaron Teys.

The duo recorded two victories as they beat Joey Luk and Martin Sham of Hong Kong 13-10, before they ousted Guernsey's Emma Snell and Connor Rabey 21-8.

The currently occupy top spot on 21 points, with Welsh pair Ysie White and Daniel Salmon trailing by three in second place.

Salmon was also in good form in the men's singles tournament as he wrapped up first place in his section.

The Welsh bowler replicated the results of Ryan in the women's singles as he claimed three wins today to guarantee victory in section two.

His day began with a hard-fought 21-20 triumph over Billy Johnson of Australia, before he went on to dispatch Canada's Lucas Caldwell 21-11.

Budriz Mustakim of Malaysia was Salmon's final victim as the Welshman won 21-13.

Action in Gold Coast, due to stage next year's Commonwealth Games, continues tomorrow.
