Australia will begin their International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's World Cup defence against the West Indies on June 26 in Taunton in a repeat of the previous competition's final.

The sport's global governing body confirmed the schedule today as part of International Women’s Day, with the tournament being hosted in England between June 24 and July 23.

On the opening day of the competition, England will meet India in Derby while New Zealand face Sri Lanka at Bristol.

Australia defeated the West Indies by 114 runs in the 2013 final held in Mumbai, India, and the countries will meet on the third day of the tournament.

The opening round of fixtures also features Pakistan taking on South Africa in Leicester on the second day.

Tickets for the competition also went on sale today, with more than 9,000 for the final at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground already bought.

"I can’t think of a better moment than International Women’s Day to unveil the schedule of one of the leading global events in women’s sport," said ICC chief executive Dave Richardson.

"We are anticipating an exciting tournament and I know the players are looking forward to competing here in front of unprecedented levels of support.

"We’ve already sold 9000 tickets for the final at Lord's which bodes well for the rest of the event going on sale today."

There is just one group at the tournament with the top four teams progressing to the semi-finals.

Matches will be played over 50-overs for each side.
