Third seed Lee Dong-keun eased into the second round as the men's singles competition began the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Korea Masters at the Seogwipo Olympic Stadium today.

The 26-year-old, who won a gold medal in the team event with South Korea at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, beat his fellow countryman Choi Young-woo in round one of their home tournament.

He progressed 21-8, 21-16 to set up a second round tie with the Czech Republic's Milan Ludik.

The European player should be relatively fresh as his South Korean opponent Kim In-woo withdrew from his first round clash after only four points had been played, due to injury.

All four points were won by the Czech.

The top three seeds in the men's draw at the competition, a Grand Prix Gold level event, are all from South Korea.

Top ranked Son Wan-ho and second seed Lee Hyun-il were not in action today as both were handed byes into round two.

Chinese Taipei's fourth seed Wang Tzu-wei was another to make it through after a three game battle with another South Korean in Park Wan-ho.

Wang prevailed 22-20, 10-21, 21-16.

South Korea's sixth seed Jeon Hyeok-jin also went the distance in his clash, eventually prevailing against compatriot Yim Jong-woo, 17-21, 21-19, 21-15.

The competition will continue tomorrow, with the opening women's singles matches part of the schedule.
