Italian track ace Giusy Versace is the latest athlete to star in the "My Incredible Story" series ahead of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics World Championships in Doha.

The series consists of videos which highlight the obstacles and challenges some of the world's Para-athletes have negotiated, in an attempt to help break down barriers and change perceptions.

Versace, a member of the world famous fashion design company which shares her surname, speaks in the third film of the series about how she managed to stay positive and motivated despite the life-changing effects of losing both her legs following a car accident.

After taking up Para-athletics in 2010, she went on to win 11 Italian National Championships in the T43 100 metres and 200m and broke the European record in the T43 100m in 2012.

The 38-year-old also won the 2015 edition of Italy’s Dancing with the Stars, becoming the first winner with a disability in the history of all international editions of the show.

"August 22, 2005 is a date that I will never forget because it has marked my life in two parts," said Versace.

"It divided my life, there is a before and an after.

"We can’t decide how to deal with the events, but we can decide whether to laugh or cry.

"The most important medal that I won was the day that I learned to look in a mirror and see Guisy still smiling and as proactive as before, even if I’m missing both legs.”

This year's World Championships will take place at the Qatar Sports Club between October 21 and 31 and Versace is looking forward to competing.

"The IPC Athletics World Championships represent a very important milestone," she said.

"I went to Doha last year and I saw that there is a great desire to do, a desire to evolve and this may be an opportunity for many of them to learn, to look at our world with new eyes and new perceptions.

"I hope that Doha 2015 will help in discovering athletes’ personal stories.”

The first video in the series featured Brazilian Terezinha Guilhermina while the second looked at American Jarryd Wallace.
