Teenager Aliaksandra Ramanouskaya of Belarus took advantage of several of the top women failing to qualify for the super-final, by performing a superb jump to earn the victory.

The biggest surprise absentee from the final was World Cup leader Xu Mengtao of China, who struggled in varying winds at the venue in Lake Placid.

Ramanouskaya's score of 80.62 proved enough for first place and the Belarusian was trailed by Veronika Korsunova of Russia and Canada's Melissa Corbo, who were enjoying podium finishes for the first time, finishing second and third respectively.

The men's competition saw Bohonnon overcome the challenge of the Chinese contingent to take World Cup gold with a score of 126.24, edging second place Hang Zhou's 125.34.

In fact, the Chinese occupied second, third and fourth positions on the standings, with the newly crowned world champion and overall World Cup leader Qi Guangpu taking the final podium place, forcing Zongyang Jia to miss out on the medals.

China's performance means that they will surely start the team aerials event as huge favourites, with Lake Placid hosting only the second world cup team competition, following its debut in Beijing on December 21.
