sochi-2014-logoApril 2 - Sochi 2014 launched their educational Olympic alphabet feature today to coincide with International Children's Book Day, and gave local schoolchildren the chance to meet famous athletes.

The alphabet consists of an online reference guide, in both Russian and English, which aims to educate users on the history of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and is designed to do so in an entertaining manner.

Schoolchildren from Sochi were given the chance to meet Russian biathlon champion Aleksei Kobelev; Artem Detyshev, a member of Russia's Olympic speed-skating team at Turin 2006; and Latvian national bobsleigh team member Normunds Kotans.

Sochi 2014 volunteers were also on hand at the event, in which the athletes spoke to children about which books had a significant impact on their lives and presented around 500 books to schools that won an "Olympic Movement Connoisseurs" quiz.

Literary exhibitions with a sporting theme were also arranged in local libraries, along with a series of readings and discussions.
