Being held at the Şehit Polis Recep Topaloğlu Sports Hall in Izmit of Kocaeli Province in Turkey, the competition runs from today until next Sunday, May 7, and we will be bringing you ALL the action at the end of each day. The Championships have been held annually since 1966 in Paris and this is the third time they have been held in Turkey, where karate is among the country’s most popular sports. Approximately 500 competitors from nearly 50 countries are due to take part. France will be hoping to defend their record as Europe’s leading country having finished top in Montpelier last year with 11 medals, including six gold.
