At a meeting where she has previously been the Queen Bee the seven-times global gold medallist - who was injured in chasing down a would-be thief of her car - was more of a worker bee as she finished seventh with 69.84 metres.

To make matters harder her 2016 meeting record of 78.30m was beaten by the current world champion Brooke Andersen, who won with 78.79m.

Canada's world silver medallist Camryn Rogers was second on 77.62m.

Home thrower Wojciech Nowicki, the Olympic champion, had to settle for second place on 79.70m behind Rudy Winkler of the United States who threw 79.70.

New Zealand's 2017 world champion Tom Walsh successfully defended his men's shot put title with a best of 22.22m.

Britain's Daryll Neita lowered her personal best in the women's 200m as she set a meeting record of 22.23sec.

Italy's Pietro Arese won the men's 1500m in a personal best and meeting record of 3min 33.56sec, with Ireland's Andrew Corcoran, a winner in Florence, second in a personal best of 3:33.87.

The women's 100m hurdles was won by Alaysha Johnson of the United States in 12.41.
