A high quality field has assembled for the World Surfing Games in El Salvador, where Olympic qualification for Paris 2024 will be on the cards.

Men's, women's and team titles are due to contested from tomorrow until June 7 at El Sunzal and La Bocana, also known as Surf City.

A group of four men and four women will book their spots for surfing's second Olympic appearance at Paris 2024, where the sport will be held more than 9,000 miles away in Tahiti.

These will be the highest ranked surfers from Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania - with the Olympic qualification spots for the Americas coming through this year's Pan American Games in Santiago.

A total of 28 of the surfers who competed when the sport made its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 are due to take part at the International Surfing Association's (ISA) flagship event in El Salvador.

They include women's gold medallist Carissa Moore of the United States and men's silver medallist Kanoa Igarashi of Japan.

Japanese women's bronze medallist Amuro Tsuzuki is also in the line-up.

In addition, eight former ISA gold medallists are in the field, including Igarashi, the defending men's World Surfing Games champion, and 2018 and 2021 women's winner Sally Fitzgibbons of Australia.

The five-time winner Moore is one of four World Surf League champions set to see action, alongside Gabriel Medina and Filipe Toledo of Brazil and John John Florence of the US.

There are due to be 64 countries and 297 athletes in action in all - a record participation - with America looking to defend their team title.

It will be the fifth major ISA event held in Surf City, and the second World Surfing Games after the 2021 edition.
