Three days of competition are scheduled at the Mohamed V Sport Complex in the Moroccan city.

It will be a history-making event as two weight classes in women's combat sambo - 59 kilograms and 72kg - will be contested for the first time in Africa.

Sambists across the combat and sport sambo divisions will also be aiming to earn a spot at the inaugural World Combat Games which are planned for Riyadh in Saudi Arabia in October.

Hosts Morocco are expected to be joined by Algeria, Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Comoros, Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Mauritius, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Togo and Tunisia at their home event.

Combat and sport sambo are scheduled be held on the first two days before beach sambo brings the Championships to a close on Monday (May 22).

All of the action will be broadcast on the International Sambo Federation website.

Africa was supposed to host this year's World Sambo Championships in November, but Egypt withdrew to be replaced by Armenia.
