FIFA President Gianni Infantino visited the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to meet the current American collegiate women's football champions.

The trip came with the United States, the most successful team in the history of the FIFA Women's World Cup, preparing to try and win a fifth crown at this year's tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

Jill Ellis, a former UCLA coach, guided the Americans to the last two World Cup titles in Canada in 2015 and France in 2019.

Two UCLA alumni were in the squad both years - Lauren Holiday and Sydney Leroux in 2015 and Sam Mewis and Abby Dahlkemper four years later.

The university's Bruins have now been crowned as National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division One women's champions.

Infantino watched a training session run by Margueritte Aozasa, who became the first coach to win the NCAA title in her first season and is also in charge of the US women's under-23 team.

Infantino then joined the players on the pitch for a game.

"Champions are made here," he said.

"Champions are made in many other universities and schools in the United States and all over the world.

"That's what we have to foster, we have to work together.

"Football unites the world, brings people together, but most importantly, football brings happiness and joy."

Infantino was in the US with the country due to host the men's World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico in 2026.

The official logo for the event was revealed yesterday.
