The 25-year-old left his home country of Kyrgyzstan with his mother seven years ago after facing discrimination, and has now settled in France.

After living in Metz and Belfort and learning French, Tadjibaev was accepted to university in Paris.

He had started taekwondo in Kyrgyzstan aged 12 and made the national set-up two years later.

However, competing in international competitions proved to be too expensive which stifled his progress.

Tadjibaev continued with taekwondo in France, becoming champion of the Grand Est region, and competed at the French Championships.

In April 2022, he became involved with the THF project as a sports instructor and helps refugee athletes in training and at competitions.

"I wanted to participate in the THF project because I had already experienced this path as a refugee," he said.

"I know how complicated it is for them to integrate into French society so I want to bring them only good things."

The THF works to teach taekwondo to refugees and displaced people around the world.

It is hoped that fighters from the project will be chosen to represent the Refugee Olympic Team at Paris 2024.
