Indonesia’s Raharjati Nursamsa delighted his home crowd with his first International Federation of Sports Climbing (IFSC) World Cup gold medal in Jakarta.

In the men's speed climbing final at Gelora Bung Karno, Nursamsa recorded a time of 5.11sec to give him victory over China’s Xinshang Wang who took silver in 5.14, a career best performance for him.

The bronze medal went to another Indonesian, Kiromal Katibin.

"I’m very happy and thankful, I’ve been training really hard for this gold medal," the 22-year-old Nursamsa said.

"It helps that we have really strong climbers in Indonesia and it gives me great motivation to keep up with them all, and now I have a win to show for my efforts."

It moves him up to fifth in the IFSC speed rankings, but his Indonesian compatriot Leonard Veddriq remains top overall with 1545 points, despite finishing only fifth in Jakarta.

Wang is second overall on 1495 points.

In the women’s competition, there gold again for Poland’s double world and European Champion Aleksandra Mirosław.

Miroslaw dominated competition throughout and won in 6.43, despite the challenges of local conditions.

"This competition was wet, and it was really warm, so I just tried to focus 100 per cent on my start," the 29-year-old Miroslaw said.

"Every competition is different, different climate, different challenges, 

"The first round of finals was really difficult for me, but then I found my flow and did my job."

Indonesia’s Desak Made Rita Kasuma Dewi recorded 6.52 for silver, an Asian record and the best performance of her career.

Miroslaw’s Polish compatriot Aleksandra Kałucka took third place.

The result keeps Miroslav at the top of the rankings with 2000 points from Desak who is second with 1495.

The next IFSC World Cup is scheduled to begin in Salt Lake City on May 19, and is to include boulder and speed events.
