Switzerland's Fanny Smith has finally received her Olympic bronze medal for ski cross at Beijing 2022, over 14 months after the race.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach made the presentation in a short medal ceremony at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.

Smith had initially finished in third position behind winner Sandra Näslund of Sweden and Canada's Marielle Thompson in the Olympic final at the Genting Snowpark in Zhangjiakou.

Afterwards, officials reviewed the video and decided that Smith had impeded Daniela Maier of Germany on the final jump.

Smith was given a yellow card for improper contact and Maier was awarded the bronze.

After meeting four times and reviewing video and written evidence, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski Appeals Commission later overturned the verdict of the jury at the venue.

They decided that "the contact was the result of a sequence of actions which happened in unison" and that the "close proximity of the racers at that moment resulted in an action that was neither intentional or avoidable".

Maier, the German Ski Association and the German Olympic Sports Confederation then appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for her to be reinstated as bronze medallist.

In December, CAS announced that their decision was to award bronze medals to both skiers, a finding which was agreed by the IOC.
