The Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee has launched an appeal for 2,000 volunteers with a view to making its selections by the end of October.

Volunteers are being sought in three categories - professionals fluent in English, individuals aged 19 and over, and those aged 15 to 18.

Applicants have until May 31 to apply, and must be fluent in Korean and English and available to participate in recruitment, training and the voluntary activity period from January 16 to February 2 next year.

Four competition zones are set to be used for Gangwon 2024 in 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics host Pyeongchang, Gangneung, Jeongseon and Hoengseong.

Voluntary posts are available in fields such as athlete support, media management, sports management and event and ceremony protocol.

The first selection process is scheduled for June and July 2023, followed by interviews and training between August and October.

Selected volunteers are set to be notified by the end of October.

The 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games are scheduled for January 19 to February 1 next year, and organisers claim the multi-sport event will "benefit from the legacy" of Pyeongchang 2018.

Approximately 1,900 athletes from 89 countries are expected to take part.
