The final races at the London Aquatics Centre featured three stages, each involving 200 metres of swimming, four kilometres on the bike and a one kilometre run, using an Olympic-sized pool, smart trainers and treadmills.

Nicolò Strada of Italy claimed victory for the third leg of the season, finishing in 33min 41sec.

Schoeman, who finished third in men's triathlon at the Rio 2016 Olympics, was second in 34:04, with New Zealand's Kyle Smith rounding off the podium for the stage in London in 34:11.

The South African was victorious over the season's three stages with 713 points, followed by Strada with 698 and Switzerland's Simon Westermann, fourth in London, with 610.

In the women's race, Britain's home favourite Beth Potter emerged victorious for the stage in London with 36:17, beating France's Cassandre Beaugrand by 22sec and Linn by 42sec.

However, Potter was unable to defend her world title having not competed in the two earlier rounds in Montreal in Canada and Sursee in Switzerland.

Linn took the overall title with 659 points, with the United States' Gina Sereno second on 589 after a sixth-place finish in London and The Netherlands' Rani Škrabanja third on 579 after placing fourth in the final event of the season.

The Arena Games Triathlon Series was developed by Super League Triathlon during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has been billed as an "esports World Championship series" under a partnership with World Triathlon.
