Erikk Aldridge, Los Angeles 2028's vice-president of impact, praised an initiative which saw Olympic organisers provide running uniforms to 2,500 students to compete in the city's marathon.

The students all took part in the Los Angeles Marathon last month.

"It's inspiring to see so many young people ready to run the LA Marathon," said Aldridge.

"Through the power of sport, these students are learning about challenges, hard work, perseverance and determination, lessons they will carry with them for life.

"We're proud to share a little bit of the Olympic and Paralympic magic with these students."

The marathon in the two-time Summer Olympic host featured a "cheer zone" where Olympians and Paralympians supported the runners.

The LA28 Organising Committee also took part in Student Run LA's "Run Them In" programme which aimed to give athletes extra motivation in the last 4.2 miles of the marathon.

As preparation for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics continues, the LA Organising Committee has hosted multiple events for students to participate in with more planned throughout the next five years.

Los Angeles also hosted the Summer Olympics in 1932 and 1984.
