Petra Kvitová of the Czech Republic claimed the 2023 Miami Open title with a victory in the final against Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina at the Hard Rock Stadium.

Kvitová has not won a Women's Tennis Association 1000 event since her Indian Wells Open title in 2018.

This is her first title in 2023 and the first Miami Open crown she won in her career.

The 33-year-old went back and forth with Rybakina, winning a lengthy tiebreak as she claimed the first set 7-6.

The two-time Wimbledon champion was then dominant in the second set, which she took 6-2 as she secured the title.

This was her 30th career title as she moves on to number 10 in the world rankings.

"Elena didn’t lose a tiebreak [this year]," Kvitová told Amazon Prime

"I had it in my mind and I said: ‘She has to lose at some point!’

"So I kept going.

"The balls afterwards were so fluffy and didn’t fly at all.

"I’m lucky.

"I had to be a little bit more aggressive, which I had been in the end, but during the tiebreak I struggled."

This defeat ended Rybakina's 13-game winning streak that began in the Indian Wells Open, which the 23-year-old won.

She only dropped one set in Miami prior to the final, as she fell short at the final hurdle in a bid to complete the Sunshine Double, which involves winning the Masters 1000 level events at Indian Wells and Miami in the same year.

This win is the first time this year that Kvitová has beaten a top 10 ranked player, and she will be looking to continue that momentum into next month's French Open.
