Hosts India won the first gold on offer at the Madhya Pradesh State Shooting Academy thanks to a 16-0 victory for Sarabjot Singh against Azerbaijan's Ruslan Lunev in the men's 10m air pistol, but the World Cup was a story of Chinese success from then onwards.

Among those attending the event in the "City of Lakes" was ISSF President Luciano Rossi.

The Italian defeated Russian oligarch Vladimir Lisin by nine votes to become the ISSF President at the General Assembly in Sharm El-Sheikh in November last year, where National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) President Raninder Singh lost his position as vice-president of the International Federation.

It was a bitter campaign and India was one of the countries which backed Lisin, but Rossi sought to use his visit to the country for the third stage of this year's World Cup in the rifle and pistol disciplines to play down any differences.

"It’s my pleasure to come together with the NRAI President, vice-president, and general-secretary," Lissi said, as reported by Sportstar.

"I think only if we cooperate with the spirit of friendship and support, that’s the best way for the future.

"I say now we are all together.

"We forget some fights because we cannot do this for the future, surely."

Xue Li won the women's 10m air pistol with a 17-5 win against Germany's Doreen Vennekamp, with Wei Qian of China taking the bronze.

A double success for China followed on the day of mixed team competition.

Huang Yuting and men's individual Olympic silver medallist Sheng Lihao eased past Hungary's Eszter Denies and István Péni 16-2 in the 10m air rifle final, and Wei and Jinyao Liu beat India's Varun Tomar and Rhythm Sangwan 17-11 in the 10m air pistol decider.

Both individual 10m air rifle titles went to China too, Sheng overcoming compatriot Linshu Du 17-13 in the men's final and Huang defeating the United States' Mary Carolynn Tucker 16-4 in her gold medal match.

Du did take an individual gold courtesy of a 16-10 victory over Péni in the men's 50m rifle three positions final, and Zhang Qiongyue earned the women's 50m rifle three positions title with a 16-8 win against Czech Republic's Aneta Brabcova.

Zhang Jueming was the final Chinese athlete to triumph in Bhopal.

He impressed in a tough men's 25m rapid fire pistol ranking match featuring Germany's Rio 2016 Olympic gold medallist Christian Reitz and the French reigning Olympic champion Jean Quiquampoix, scoring 19 out of 20 to progress to the final in top spot.

Zhang was tied at 30 apiece with France's Clément Bessaguet going into the final series, and held his nerve to shoot all five targets and beat his closest challenger by one.

Vennekamp was the other winner of the ISSF World Cup Rifle and Piatol, triumphing in the women's 25m pistol event with a score of 30 in the final to the 29 of China's Ziyue Du.

The next stage of the World Cup is due to be in the shotgun discipline from tomorrow until next Sunday (April 2) in the Cypriot city of Larnaca.

The next World Cup Rifle and Pistol is scheduled for April 11 to 22 at Las Palmas in Peru's capital Lima.
