Fan won the match-up 4-1, winning the first two games 11-5 and 13-11 before Ma pulled one back.

The eventual champion then won the final two games 11-9 to secure the victory.

Long had only lost one match-up this year before this final, with Fan having the advantage of a 16-6 head-to-head against Long in his favour.

"The challenges were there but the reward is huge," said Fan.

"Tonight is not just about winning the title but also a huge confidence boost for me.

"I feel that Ma Long is in really good form for this event. 

"Age seems to not have left a mark on him. 

"In fact, he’s playing even better and stronger than before."

This is Fan's 24th title of his career as he increases the gap in the world rankings between him and second-placed Ma by 3,900 points.

In the women's match, China's Sun Yingsha, the world's number one, defeated her 22nd ranked compatriot Qian Tianyi 4-1.

Sun took the first game 11-7, but Qian bounced back to take the second game 21-10.

From then on, Sun won three straight games with scores of 13-11, 11-6 and 11-7.

The pair faced each other for the ninth time, with Sun breaking the deadlock between the two to make it 5-4 in her favour.

"I am very happy to win today's final," said Sun.

"I know Qian Tianyi very well, and we have been training together since childhood.

"I think we both tried our best in today's match. 

"I changed my tactics and tempo in the fourth game, so the rest of the game was smooth."

Sun now has 16 consecutive wins in a row, and she won her third WTT Series singles title in a row after her victories at WTT Champions in Macao and the Xinxiang 2022 WTT Cup Finals.

The world's number one extended her gap between her and compatriot Chen Meng to 3,115 points.

In the doubles, Fan and Chuqin Wang defeated South Korean duo Jang Woojin and Lim Jonghoon in the men's final, winning 3-1.

In the women's doubles, Sun and Wang Manyu defeated Chen and Wang Yidi 3-2 in an all-Chinese final.
