Nicaragua took the lead at the LoanDepot Park in Miami, United States, after scoring one run despite recording seven hits in the first two innings.

During the fourth, Eugenio Suárez was able to secure a two-run single to give Venezuela a 3-1 lead after Andrés Giménez had earlier levelled the contest.

Venezuela scored the final point of the match in the bottom of the fifth as Luis Rengifo scored after an Anthony Santander double.

"We're looking for good pitches so we can do some damage," said Giménez, who scored the first point for Venezuela in this match-up. 

"Just try and stay calm regardless of the situation, I think that's key, especially for me. 

"I just tried to stay within my plan, trying to help the team, and just get a good pitch to hit."

Venezuela, who finished third in 2009, improved their record to 3-0 and will now face the runners-up of Pool C in the quarter-finals, while Nicaragua bow out of the tournament, losing all four matches during their first ever appearance in the competition.

In the other Pool D match-up, the Dominican Republic dominated Israel 10-0 to set up a final day decider for quarter-final qualification against Puerto Rico, as both nations have two wins and one loss.

The Dominican Republic ended things in the seventh, after hitting three runs, while also scoring four in the sixth.

In the Pool C matches at Chase Field in Phoenix, United States, Canada defeated Colombia 5-0 to set up an exciting game against Mexico. who also won in an intense low scoring bout versus Britain, edging past them 2-1.

Canada, Mexico and the United States are level with two wins and one draw, as they all look to secure qualification.

Colombia still have a chance to qualify as they have one win and two losses, but they need a massive victory over the United States in order to have a chance of advancing.

All these crucial matches will be happening tomorrow, along with the first quarter-finals match-up between Australia and 2006 runners-up Cuba.
