Dusek secured his first world title in dramatic fashion as he pipped Germany’s Martin Nörl to the finish in the Georgian city.

Fellow Austrian Alessandro Hämmerle got off to a strong start, leading Dusek, Nörl and Italy’s Omar Visintin.

The race was tightly contested with all four riders battling for top spot as Nörl went side by side with Hämmerle into the last turn.

Hämmerle looked to get the better of Nörl only to crash while the German started to lose speed following the contact.

Nörl battled hard to hold on but Dusek overhauled him with a late surge, while Visintin made the most of Hämmerle’s fall to grab bronze.

With reigning world champion Charlotte Bankes of Britain failing to make the top 16, Adamczyková looked to seize her chance in the women’s competition.

Adamczyková, a gold medallist at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, won every single heat heading into the final before producing the goods when it mattered most.

The Czech snowboarder pulled clear of the field as she became world champion for the second time, adding to the gold she won in 2019.

France’s Petit Lenoir was in second position only to be overtaken by both young Australian Josie Baff and veteran American Lindsey Jacobellis.

Baff sealed silver, while five-time world champion and double Olympic gold medallist Jacobellis saw off Lenoir to bag bronze.

Japan had a successful day in the men’s and women’s snowboard halfpipe qualification competition.

Yuto Totsuka got the better of fellow Japanese snowboarder Ruka Hirano to take top spot in the men’s event.

There was also a strong performance from Japan’s Mitsuki Ono who registered the biggest score in the women’s competition.

Canadian duo Rachael Karker and Brendan Mackay both finished first in the qualification round of the respective women’s and men’s freeski halfpipe events.
