Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) India held its National MMA and Striking MMA Championships in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.

The four-day event attracted fighters from across the country and was used to select the Indian squad for the next GAMMA World Championships.

Under-18 bouts started the competition before the seniors brought the action to a close.

Dhruv Shirodkar was named as the best male athlete of the tournament after claiming a pair of gold medals.

He won at 52.2 kilograms - the lightest men's class - in both the MMA and striking MMA disciplines.

Chumpi Dado was crowned as best female athlete after also winning two medals.

She won gold in the 52.2kg striking and also won silver in the 56.7kg striking after going up a division.

GAMMA introduced striking MMA as a new discipline in 2021.

It includes all MMA techniques, apart from the ground and pound, and is designed to make the process of learning new techniques easier for fighters who have come from other combat sports.

Athletes are still allowed to submit their opponents to the ground and have a maximum of 30 seconds to finish the submission to earn a tap out and win.

Any fighter who is saved by the 30-second rule gets a point deducted.

Last year, it was revealed that India's husband and wife Andrew and Devleena Canday had become the first couple to both be GAMMA certified officials.
