Britain's Green was previously technical director and will now lead a department tasked with guiding athletes of all ages and disciplines.

He joined USA Taekwondo from GB Taekwondo in 2017, where he coached Jade Jones to a pair of Olympic gold medals.

Rio 2016 Olympian Stephen Lambdin has additionally been appointed as director of athlete development, where he will work with director of athlete affairs Sherman Nelson.

His remit will be to deliver world class training camps, athlete and coach education, and undertake the "most comprehensive talent search the US has ever seen."

He will also oversee continuing efforts to build "robust regional networks for athlete development across the United States, in conjunction with the regional coaching teams."

Lambdin is a co-chair of World Taekwondo's Athletes' Committee, meaning he sits on the world governing body's Council.

"USA Taekwondo already changed the game by bringing in the two best coaches in the world," he said, referring to the recruitment of Green and Gareth Brown. 

"What excites me most in taking on this new role is helping them continue the new standard of excellence they've established by aiming to put a full team of athletes on the medal stand at the Olympics for generations to come."

USA Taekwondo has a goal of its athletes "dominating" in time for their home Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

There are positive signs for the future after Anastasija Zolotic won Olympic gold aged 19 at Tokyo 2020.

At last year's World Championships in Guadalajara in Mexico, 18-year-old Makayla Greenwood topped the podium.
