The Oval in England is set to host the 2023 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Test Championship Final.

Scheduled to be held from June 7 to 11, the second edition of the event will bring the top two Test sides after two years of competition that saw 61 matches over 24 series played so far.

New Zealand are the reigning champions but the their Oceania rivals Australia are currently top of the overall table with 136 points.

India is second with 99 points and is set to welcome Australia for a four-match Test series from February 9.

"Leading Team India out onto the field of play at the World Test Championship Final would be special," India's skipper Rohit Sharma said.

"We have grown and developed as a team during this competition and to be in with a chance of lifting the Mace at the Oval in June, we know we first need to overcome a tough Australia side.

"There have been so many dramatic moments in Test cricket lately, and there are undoubtedly more to come.

"I am excited by the prospect of booking our place at the Final and hopefully creating history later in the year."

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, who are third in the overall rankings, and South Africa who are scheduled to play New Zealand and West Indies in February and March are in contention to make the Final.

Australia skipper Pat Cummins is excited about a potential place in the Final and claimed it has been a "motivation" for the team in the last two years.

"To play at a neutral venue like The Oval adds another element for both sides who make the Final," Cummins said.

"It’s exciting and has been a goal of ours for a while now.

"We are confident we can secure a place while here in India after a really strong 12 months.

"The Final would be a great reward for the players and staff who have done so well."
